WASHINGTON (Dow Jones)--The U.S. economy remained weak through May, a roundup of reports from regional Federal Reserve districts released Wednesday showed, as consumers were "pinched" by rising food and energy prices and labor markets softened.

DJ US Stocks Higher; Car Makers, Financials Bounce

U.S. stocks rebounded Tuesday as the weakest sectors of late - financials, home builders and car makers staged a rally. Earlier a gauge of consumer confidence and a home-price index highlighted the vulnerable state of the U.S. economy and sent the Dow Jones Industrial Average down more than 100 points.
